Applying to Begin a Certificate as a Degree-Seeking Student (BS, MS or Ph.D.)
The Undergraduate Certificate in Systems Engineering is only available to BS/BA degree-seeking students. It has no application. However, the student must have received a B or better in the classes used to satisfy the Preliminary Knowledge Requirements in math, probability/statistics and computer programming. The student is also reminded to apply for the certificate with us once the courses are successfully completed.
Current degree seeking (MS or Ph.D.) students enrolled at the U may apply to our Graduate Certificates through a simple webform with no fees. All applicants should have taken a year of calculus and a semester of probability or statistics.

Applying to Begin a Certificate as a Non-Matriculated (Non-Degree Seeking) Student
Graduate certificates can be earned without being admitted to a master's or Ph.D. program. Unlike an application to a graduate program, this application is simple and does not require letters of recommendation or an application fee. It only requires a brief description of why you think you are prepared to pass the classes and earn the certificate, plus a personal statement. Requirements for Awarding GCSE
Please fill this out when you are in your final semester of Systems Engineering Graduate Certificate courses so we can notify the Graduation Office to award and mail your certificate (be sure your CIS address is accurate).
- Complete the required 15 hours of courses with a grade of B or higher in every course.
- Fill out the GCSE completion form in the semester that the certificate is to be awarded.
- This form must be filled out after the semester starts and before finals week.
- To get your name in the Spring Commencement Program, the form must be filled out prior to Feb. 15.
Requirements for Awarding GCEM
In the semester that you wish to be awarded the GCEM fill out the following form. This form must be filled out at least a week before finals week.
Completion Form: Graduate Certificate in Engineering ManagementEarn a grad of B or better in all courses used for the GCEM. This will be checked by the Director of Engineering Management Programs after grades are posted in the awarding semester.
