SIME Degrees and Certificate Admissions
The MEM and MSSE degrees are far more restrictive in admissions than the graduate certificates (GCEM or GCSE). Since people change throughout their lives, the SIME faculty prefer to offer opportunities for individuals to prove their current academic aptitude. As such, individuals not meeting the application requirements for the MEM or MSSE degrees are encouraged to take a few classes to prove their intellectual capability, work ethic and determination to earn a graduate SIME degree or certificate. Doing well in two or three SIME courses is typically sufficient to gain admittance the to MEM or MSSE degrees. Fortunately, the U allows up to 5 classes to count toward the MEM or MSSE degree prior to being admitted. Thus, taking the classes to "prove" a students capability becomes part of the students required 30 hours for the MEM or MSSE degree.
If you are trying to "academically prove" yourself, please email the director of the relevant program. In trying to academically prove oneself, it is recommended to take the most mathematically rigorous core classes first. If a student can do well in the more mathematically rigorous classes, then there is a high probabililty that the student can complete an entire graduate degree.
