On February 12th, 2026 the Systems Engineering group in the Department of Mechanical Engineering hosted the first L3Harris Systems Engineering Lecture Series at the Crimson View in the Student Union. The outstanding views of the valley and mountains were surpassed by the speakers' stories on systems engineering.

Todd Ovard, Systems Engineer and Project Leader at L3Harris, spoke on systems architecting and the importance of design within the project's constraints and to the requirements. Attorney and Government Relations Expert Nicole Cottle spoke on her projects, which have raised over 5 billion dollars of public and private investment for land development in Utah. She expertly described the complicated processes of land development, and how a systematic approach is needed. Around 70 people attended.
